Bulgarian Citizenship by Investment Eligibility


We offer investors a residency and citizenship investment program in accordance with the Bulgarian Act on Aliens in the Republic of Bulgaria; this program includes a fast-track naturalization option. It is also one of the fastest programs to obtain residency.

In order to obtain residency or naturalization, applicants must fulfill one of the following investment options in addition to meeting the following conditions:

  • Non-EU citizens.

  • Hold a valid passport or other international travel document.

  • Documents that can prove the source of investment funds.

  • No criminal records.

  • Entrustment certificate and investment agreement.

  • Meet the legal minimum number of trips to Bulgaria.





Bulgaria investment options


The following investment options are now available, subject to meeting the corresponding conditions:

  • Capital injection of BGN 500,000 (EUR 255,646) into a Bulgarian company through acquisition of tangible or intangible assets and creation of 10 or more jobs for Bulgarian citizens; justification of the reasons for maintaining the foreigner's permit and investment to the Ministry of Economy

  • Invest 1 million levs in a collective investment scheme or alternative investment fund licensed and registered by the Financial Supervision Commission (in both cases, minimum net asset value requirements apply), whose investment strategy is mainly in Bulgarian companies and invests only in the assets and/or bonds of Bulgarian companies, including special purpose investment vehicles

  • Invest 1 million levs in a collective investment scheme or alternative investment fund licensed and registered by the Financial Supervision Commission (in both cases, minimum net asset value requirements apply), whose investment strategy is mainly in Bulgarian companies and invests only in the assets and/or bonds of Bulgarian companies, including special purpose investment vehicles

  • Investment of BGN 2 million in shares of Bulgarian listed companies in priority investment projects certified under the Investment Promotion Law and verified by the Ministry of Economy, or in shares or bonds of Bulgarian companies traded on the Bulgarian regulated market or multilateral trading institutions

  • Capital injection of 6 million levs into a private company in Bulgaria

  • The requirement to maintain the investment for at least 5 years remains in place.



Fast-track naturalization conditions


The fast track naturalization option allows investors to quickly complete the naturalization application process by doubling their investment. The requirements for this option are as follows:

  • One year has passed since you were granted permanent residency.

  • double the original investment amount (€512,000) under the same conditions as the original investment; or

  • Inject a capital contribution of at least BGN 1 million into a Bulgarian company that is certified under the Investment Promotion Law and certified as a priority investment project by the Ministry of Economy; or

  • The investor invests at least $1 million in a company and creates at least 20 new jobs.


Naturalization conditions


According to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act, foreign investors who have held a permanent residence permit for five years are eligible to apply for Bulgarian citizenship. Applicants who choose the regular program should meet the following requirements:

  • Aged 18 or above.

  • Have had permanent residency and a valid residential address for the past five years.

  • Has never been convicted of a capital crime by any court in Bulgaria, nor has he or she been criminally charged with such a crime (unless his or her reputation has been rehabilitated).

Investors are required to apply for naturalization and pass a medical examination in their country of residence.
